4 Catering Tips for a Successful Event

If you’re planning an event for which you will need the services of a caterer, you need to make sure that they are really good and with a solid reputation. Great food and drink as well as presentation can make or break an event, so you want to make sure that you get this right. Obviously, your budget will have a lot to do with your decision, but if your budget is not a concern, then you can really go to town. Here’s some tips on how to choose a good caterer.

1. Interest & Responsiveness

When you speak to a caterer for the first time, or even a few times, check to see what level of interest they show. Also, when you call or email them, how soon do they respond? If they show genuine interest and are also quick to respond to you, this is a big plus. They need to listen to what you have to say, but also ask questions of you. Otherwise, you’re just another person of no significance. You should be made to feel special. They must be interested to find out about the theme, your budget and the purpose for the event.

2. Experience In Your Kind Of Event

If your event is going to be slightly different from the norm, can they handle it? They may be good at certain types of events but not others. This is understandable. However, if the event is going to be different, then they should be experienced in it and be able to handle it. If not, you should look elsewhere.

3. Are They Flexible With The Menu?

This is a biggie. There may be certain restrictions or specifications for some guests. These may be anything to do with allergies, vegetarian and vegan recipes and even recipes for kids. A good caterer should at least consider this. They should be able to accommodate your custom theme. Outstanding caterers are always updating their menu and allowing for flexibility. They should be aware of dietary needs and restrictions. If they cannot accommodate you, then obviously, you’ll have to try someone else who does.

4. Experienced Chef & Staff

Find out if the chef and the staff are experienced, but mainly concentrate on the chef. Find out what qualifications he or she has. A lot of the time, it’s the greatness of the chef that can really make this a huge success. Even if the company hasn’t been around long enough, as long as the chef is special, you can bet that the food will be outstanding.

There are other things to consider as well. There will be a contract, so make sure to check this so no confusion occurs. Look for things like cancellations and insurance. You may even consider having a lawyer go through a contract so that you don’t end up hurt in any way. Occasionally, something can go wrong, so be two steps ahead and protect yourself.
